What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychological therapy based on the idea that it is not events themselves that cause intense emotions, but the way we interpret and make sense of them. Our thoughts about a situation influence how we feel emotionally and physically, and how we behave in response.

These behaviours can then feed back into our thoughts and emotions, creating a vicious cycle. At times, we can become stuck in unhelpful thinking patterns and coping behaviours that may bring short-term relief, but unintentionally maintain or intensify difficult feelings in the longer term.

Using CBT techniques, we look at ways to gently interrupt these cycles, helping you develop new perspectives and responses so you can move forward with greater freedom and confidence.
